Abi Kattel Memorial Foundation Scholarships

Accepting applications now, needs to be submitted by June 01, 2008

Abi Kattel Memorial Foundation (AKMF) is accepting applications for the following scholarships and general funding:

-  Academic Scholarship ($1000) for college bound high school students.
- Scholarship grant to YMCA of Boynton Beach 'Summer Camp for Children' program ($1000)
- High School students participating the National level scholastic competitions ($200)

Application and Selection Information

Eligibility Requirements
• Currently accepted in an undergraduate program at an institution for higher learning.
• Proof of graduation from high school at the time of application.
• Applicants must be full/part-time students in an educational institution.
• Application must be postmarked no later than June 1 of the year.

Mailing Instruction
A complete application package including the following documents:
• Completed application form in English
• Copy of acceptance letter from an accredited college or university.
• One reference letter
• High School Transcripts
• Typed, double-spaced essay
• High School transcripts (copy)

Mail the completed application with attachments to the Foundation at the following address:

Application review:
• Scholarship applications review will begin June 10 of the year by the Abi Kattel Memorial Scholarship committee (three members).
• The Abi Kattel Memorial Scholarship committee chair will notify (electronically) the Award Recipient by July 30. Award amount will be mailed to the recipient not later than September 30 of that year.

Note: No applications or associated documentation will be returned to applicants. Recipient’s photo and name will be posted on the Abi Kattel Memorial Foundation (www.abikattelfoundation.org) and Florida Nepal Association (www.Floridanepal.org) web sites.

Once the recipient receives an award winning notification she/he should respond a letter of acceptance of scholarship within a month along with a photo (preferably digital) to post on the website.

Important: Unable to receive a letter of acceptance from recipient within a month will be equivalent to declining the scholarship award. In such cases, an alternate candidate will be awarded the scholarship.

A scholarship grant to YMCA of Boynton Beach ($1000) 'Summer Camp for Children' program

• Annual scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be granted to YMCA.
• Applicants should apply through YMCA.
• A selection of the grant recipient will be done jointly by YMCA and Abi Kattel Memorial Foundation.
• Recipient will be announced via YMCA.

High School students participating the National level scholastic competitions ($200)

Eligibility Requirements

High school students participating in any National level competitions should send
A request letter, at least two months in advance of the event, to

A package should include:
• A letter with detailed information about the competition s/he would be participating with date and place.
• The student’s year in school, check mailing & email addresses, and phone number(s).
• A letter, on a school letter head, from a teacher of the school describing the national competition and participation.
• The award will be given up to two qualified students on a first-come-first-served basis.
• Check will be mailed to the address you provided 10 days prior to your event.

2065 Nepali New Year Picnic

Saturday, 19-April-2008, Orlando, FL

Nepali New Year 2065 picnic will be held in Orlando this year. Turkey Lake park is the venue and celebration program will be held from 11:30 AM till 4:00 PM. Let's welcome the Nepali New Year with a bang !!.

The cost for this years picnic is $6.00 per person. Kids 12 years and younger eat and celebrate free.

Exit 259 and merge into I-4 West Bound. Follow directions for I-4 West Bound (see below).

I-4 West Bound
Take exit 75B to merge onto S Kirkman Rd/SR-435 North and go 1.6 miles.
Turn left at Conroy Road and go 2.5 miles.
Turn right at S Hiawassee Road and go 0.9 miles to the PARK.

I-4 East Bound
Take exit 74A for Sand Lake Rd/SR-482.
Turn left at Sand Lake Rd/SR-482 and continue going West on Sand Lake Rd for 0.3 miles.
Turn right at CR-439 N/Turkey Lake Road and go 2.1 miles.
Slight left to stay on CR-439 N/Turkey Lake Road and go 1.1 miles.
Turn left at Conroy Windermere Rd/CR-439 West and go 0.5 miles.
Turn right at S Hiawassee Road and go 0.9 miles to the PARK.
